November 2008
Snow arrives in North Yorkshire!

..and then some! We had guests who were lucky enough to sample some once in a lifetime riding last Saturday when Dalby and the moors were covered in a thick blanket of champagne powder snow.

See our testamonials section for a pic of ben riding up Adders Back in Dalby

In fact with loads more snow overnight we then went out for a social ride and Wee Jimmy P came along! He's not really that big - we think his air bag deployed early!

Rippin the fresh on an MTB! Truly a weekend to remember.

November 2008:
Winter riding program and night rides!!

We've been working hard on some more winter routes for when the weather gets really bad AND we've just got our Exposure demo sets in. So why not book to come and stay and try the spangly new Exposure Joysticks and Maxx-D's (the Daddy!) on one of our guided night rides. We can even do you a great deal if you decide to buy a set!

Watch this space for our most exciting news yet as the next chapter unfolds

October 2008:
Big Bear Active achieves fully qualified CTC MTB instructor status.

After an amazingly busy summer (no time for news updates!) we finally managed to get Ian Warby up to do our instructor assessment and we're proud to say that we are now one of only a handful of companies in the UK who have fully qualified CTC mountain bike instructors. Thanks lots to Su for agreeing to have an assessor along 'for the ride'!

For more info on the program click the CTC image on the right.

June 2008:
Stop Press... BBA rides the awesome new Pace Bikes!

We've been so excited about this news that we couldn't sleep! Big Bear Active would like to announce that we have agreed a deal with Pace Cycles. See our press relase below and watch this space for some pics!

Big Bear Active, the North Yorkshire based mountain bike holiday company is pleased to announce a link up with Pace Cycles, bringing even more benefits to their ever growing mountain biker guest base. The first stage in the agreement sees the much praised RC305XCAM and RC405XCAM bikes forming the base of the guiding fleet. Mike Hawtin (head guiding and cooking honcho)  says he was looking for bikes that can stand both the rigours of guiding and all that the local North Yorkshire terrain can throw at them. After test riding bikes from many manufacturers, the Pace bikes were selected for their amazing performance and suitability for riding the local terrain on which they were developed. Mike explained that there are many awesome bikes out there but it's only when you get onto some of the challenging North York Moors riding or blasting round the trail network at Dalby Forest that the design and performance of the Pace bikes really start to shine through.

Adrian Carter, owner of Pace Cycles, explained the reasons for linking with Big Bear Active were twofold. Firstly it's great to have our bikes selected on such demanding criteria and to see them being ridden and promoted on our doorstep. Secondly, I  have seen for myself what Big Bear Active have to offer and their operation is extremely professional with facilities like some of the bigger Alpine set ups. This is amazing for North Yorkshire mountain biking and is exactly the type of outfit that Pace like to do business with.

Anybody interested in the Pace bikes can opt to add a demo ride into your mountain bike holiday package with Big Bear Active. There are also plans to expand the fleet with other Pace models in the future. For more information call or email us and for more about the bikes take a look at www.pacecycles.com

May 2008.
Amazing new Wingnut riding packs!

Big Bear Active are pleased to announce that they now use and supply Wingnut hydration backpacks. After literally years of trying out different packs and looking for the right balance of weight, comfort and accessibility on the move, the innovative Wingnut packs meet all those requirements and more. Offering a unique harness system which carries the load on your hips, the packs help lower your centre of gravity and reduce shoulder and back fatigue. In addition the sidewings allow the rider to access things like multi tools, tubes etc without having to take the pack off. Take a look at www.wingnutgear.com for more information or call us on 01751 475111. If you're booked in on a mountain bike break or riding session with us you'll even have the option to try before you buy!

April 2008. Superstar Components!

Having tried and tested some of the great products from Superstar Components over winter we now use and stock a number of items including their amazing value brake pads. So if your pads or Hollowtech II bottom bracket are on the way out why not try a Superstar replacement! Either call in or call us. Better still, if you're staying with us, we'll offer you a customer discount on the already, amazingly low, web prices.

See www.superstarcomponents.com for more details.

January 2008

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! With the first serious snow of the winter we were straight out on the bikes to have some fun midweek with the trails all to ourselves :o) We're just waiting for some more now!

November 2007

We’re now an approved stockist for Exposure lights and are regularly using them on our North Yorkshire night rides. They’re as good as HIDS, you can turn ‘em on and off during the ride and there are no cables attach or huge batteries to lug around! The Joystick weighs a miniscule 80g which makes it perfect for a helmet light. Call us for prices or book on a night ride and hire a set to try them out!

September 2007

At last I managed to get some free time to help on a SingletrAction dig day. We’re really proud to be members and we can always do with some extra pairs of hands to get the new sections completed. Head along to our links section and hit the SingletrAction link to read more about what the guys get up to. Oh and here are few photos of the hard work – no fancy machines here just good old Yorkshire blood and sweat.
